“I’m scared! Dad, nothing is going to happen to me?”: Child experiences terror in the middle of a shooting in Mazatlán

“¡Tengo miedo! Papá, ¿no me va a pasar nada?”: niño vive terror en medio de una balacera en Mazatlán

“I’m scared! Dad, are those gunshots?” says a child, sobbing, as a shooting occurs in Mazatlán, Sinaloa.

A video circulating on social media shows the incident, in which, apparently, father and son are lying on the floor between some plastic tables.

“Isn’t anything going to happen to me?” the child insists to his father, who answers that “nothing is happening” to try to calm him down.

The images supposedly correspond to the events that occurred on Sunday 27, when a violent day was recorded in the streets of Mazatlán, Sinaloa. Residents recorded the violent events in videos that they uploaded to social media and quickly went viral.

In the videos, various gunshots can be heard, trucks stopped, and one even showed a white truck completely riddled with bullets, evidencing the intensity of these events.

In response, the municipal government of Mazatlán urged the population to take shelter while authorities at all three levels of government continued to respond to incidents.
