The Oaxaca de Juárez City Council, through the Secretariat for Tourism Development, is finalizing details for the Magna Comparsa 2024, an activity that marks the beginning of the Day of the Dead festivities in the Oaxacan capital.
As part of the Oaxaca always lives, never dies events program, this cultural event will take place next Wednesday, October 30 at 6:00 p.m., starting at the city’s Zócalo and ending at the Plaza de la Danza, the City Council reported in a statement.
The comparsa is expected to tour the streets of Doctor Aurelio Valdivieso, Macedonio Alcalá, Allende, García Vigil and Avenida Morelos, to close with the inaugural concert by the band La Trakatera, a totally free event that will take place around 8:00 p.m.
The participation of residents of the capital from neighborhoods, colonies, subdivisions, municipal capitals and agencies, as well as residents of neighboring municipalities, groups and universities, is expected in the Magna Comparsa 2024.
The Day of the Dead celebration celebrates the temporary return to the land of deceased relatives and loved ones; these celebrations take place at the end of October and beginning of November, a period that marks the harvest cycle of corn, the predominant crop in the country.
From October 30 to November 2, a series of totally free activities will be held that will highlight the cultural heritage of Oaxaca this season and the schedule of events can be found on the social networks of the City Council.
