With a flight by the company Viva Aerobus from Mexico City to Matamoros, air connectivity was increased on the border of Tamaulipas.
“Air connectivity is a strong trigger for tourism, which translates into a greater economic impact and the consolidation of Tamaulipas as a tourist reference,” announced the Secretary of Tourism in the state, Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez.
The inauguration of the first flight took place this Friday, November 1, at the facilities of the Matamoros International Airport “General Servando Canales,” which is managed by Rear Admiral Guillermo Pérez Campos.
“The point is to strengthen tourism in the state, by increasing the flow of visitors and destinations so that they can enjoy the wide tourist mosaic that Tamaulipas has,” added the state official.
He assured that the request of Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya is that in the state connectivity and air service be increased and that the frequency of flights be optimized to serve all types of travelers.
He received a special ‘bathing’
As is customary, once the inaugural flight arrived in Matamoros from Mexico City, it was received by a bath of water, so it was necessary to have the support of the Fire Department.
According to a publication by EL SOL DE TOLUCA, wetting the planes is a tradition in aviation and occurs in special situations, for example when a commander of an aircraft makes his last flight before his retirement, but also when an airline opens a new route and the first plane lands.
The tradition has no practical purpose and its origin comes from the golden age of transatlantic ships at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century when they arrived at the port for the first time to indicate the happy arrival and prosperity.
Three airlines operate in Matamoros
At the Matamoros air terminal, Aeroméxico VivaAerobus and Aerus currently operate, which with this new flight will add five to six actions of this type per day.
These flights go to Monterrey, Nuevo León and to Mexico City. In the case of this new flight in Matamoros, which increased air connectivity on the Tamaulipas border, departures and arrivals are planned to take place from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA).
