Residents of the municipality of Las Choapas, south of Veracruz, set fire to at least three vehicles and attacked a State Police headquarters in protest against the aggression towards a man by an agent who responded to a call for help due to a fight.
It was during the night of Thursday and early Friday morning when the residents began destroying vehicles and Public Security facilities, and even threw Molotov cocktails.
According to police reports, State Police officers responded to a call for help due to a fight in the Los Pinos subdivision.
At the site, a subject allegedly attacked one of the officers with a knife, who fired his weapon and injured the man.
In response, local residents and relatives began a protest that led to the burning of two cars and a motorcycle, as well as attacks with stones on private vehicles, patrol cars and the headquarters of the State Public Security Secretariat.
Agents from corporations from other regions went to the scene to try to restore order.
Meanwhile, members of the State Attorney General’s Office arrested and brought before a public prosecutor the police officer accused of having shot the victim.
On Friday morning, only traces of the riots remained, as well as remains of the burned vehicles.
