The rain that fell on Friday afternoon caused significant flooding in the capital city of Campeche. The streets and avenues became inundated with puddles, forcing the temporary closure of some roads and slowing down traffic.
Civil Protection officials were deployed to various areas of the city to monitor the water levels resulting from the heavy rainfall. Avenues such as Cuauhtémoc, Miguel Alemán, Álvaro Obregón, and Concordia, along with parts of the Cuatro Caminos neighborhood, experienced severe flooding that reached as high as 30 centimeters.
In the Cuatro Caminos neighborhood, Civil Protection personnel had to dismantle part of a retaining wall obstructing a storm drain in order to expedite water drainage and alleviate the flooding on the road. According to preliminary assessments, there were no major damages reported.
This situation is reminiscent of the emergency that occurred on October 30th, when nearly 600 homes in the Huanal and Cuatro Caminos neighborhoods were flooded due to the blockage of a natural waterway caused by poor planning during the construction of the concrete slabs for the “Light Train” project.
