The Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Quintana Roo is investigating two men for the crime of attempted murder against a female police officer, after they took her hostage during a search and threatened to take her life.
The events occurred during the afternoon of November 1 on José López Portillo Avenue, near Cancún. According to reports, members of the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit of Benito Juárez were conducting a search of two men after receiving a report of assault on a public transport unit, when one of them tried to take the gun of one of the police officers.
A user who was at a gas station recorded the exact moment in which Eliseo ‘N’, dressed in a green shirt and gray shorts, tried to snatch the male officer’s gun and, upon noticing that he would not succeed, grabbed the female police officer by the neck.
During this action, the second man under investigation, identified as Lázaro ‘N’ – dressed in a grey shirt and white shorts – managed to escape and began to threaten the uniformed woman, who was finally taken hostage.
For at least 30 seconds, the officer’s partner held the firearm, until he finally fired the gun and managed to shoot one of the criminals in the leg.
Immediately after, the woman got up and both subdued the aggressors with the support of passersby and gas station employees.
After the events, it was reported that Lázaro ‘N’ was injured in the right femur and left ankle, for which he was transferred to a hospital, where he remains in custody. The uniformed woman was also hospitalized and her health condition is reported as stable.
Meanwhile, Eliseo ‘N’ was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Subjects assaulted a van minutes before
According to the FGE, the security elements were carrying out the inspection of the now detained after having identified them as the possible perpetrators of an assault on a van.
The complaint to 911 referred that, on the avenues Tulum and López Portillo, Lázaro ‘N’ boarded a transport unit. Minutes later, at the height of the area known as the Stone Arch of the Cancún-Leona Vicario highway, he asked to stop; his accomplice was already waiting for him.
When the van stopped, Eliseo ‘N’ boarded the unit and threatened the driver with a gun, while Lázaro ‘N’ robbed 11 passengers of their belongings.
“After this, they ordered the driver to leave the place and fled on board a motorcycle towards Cancun, where they were located through the C5 video surveillance cameras, after the report to the emergency number 911, by the affected passengers,” added the agency.
After their arrest, two firearms, a motorcycle, as well as six cell phones and headphones were found, which were put at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
In addition to being investigated for the crime of attempted homicide, they are accused of damage and resistance of individuals.
