Tourist from Mexico City dies after being swept away by waves on Mazatlán beach

A 29-year-old tourist from Mexico City died after being swept away by strong waves on a beach in Cerritos, Mazatlán.

The man, identified as Alexis, was pulled out of the sea by members of the Aquatic Rescue Squad and received first aid on the spot, but was declared dead after being taken to a hospital.

Meanwhile, Sergio, who was the deceased’s companion and was 27 years old, was rescued along with Alexis. Unlike his companion, Sergio did not require hospital care and remained on the spot.

During the day of rescues, the lifeguard corps also attended three other emergencies on beaches in Mazatlán.

In the first alert, in Playas Brujas, Saúl, a 24-year-old from Querétaro, was rescued after being caught by a current. After being assessed on the shore, he only suffered a nervous breakdown.

At Playas Gaviotas, Alison, 69, a visitor from Arizona, was assisted after being pulled by the waves. After the rescue, her condition was reported as stable and she only showed signs of fatigue, without the need for medical intervention.
