Judith Vianney Toledo Santos, a nurse, was found dead on November 2, 2024, after she had been missing for 12 days. The body of the young woman was discovered inside a house located in Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán.
Preliminary reports indicated that Judith’s remains showed signs of extreme violence and had been cut into pieces, placed in bags, and clandestinely buried. It is believed that she was suffocated due to asphyxiation.
A coworker of the victim, who was also a resident of the house where her body was found, has been arrested by the authorities. The suspect allegedly committed the crime and then buried Judith’s remains to conceal his actions.
The search for Judith began on October 21 when she was seen in the Lomas del Crestón neighborhood outside the ISSSTE hospital.
A group called Justice for Judith Vianney is demanding a thorough and professional investigation into her death. The Human Rights Center “Bartolomé Carrasco Briseño” BARCA A.C, as well as other organizations like CEDHAPI A.C and GES Mujer, are calling on the Attorney General’s Office to punish those responsible for Judith’s murder with the maximum penalty.
It is reported that 80 femicides have occurred in Oaxaca so far in 2024, with most taking place in the Central Valleys region where Judith lived. The area is considered one of the most dangerous places for women in Oaxaca.
