There is no gas in Merida: What is causing the fuel shortage in Yucatan?

There is a shortage of fuel in Merida, Yucatan. The cause of the shortage is a lack of LP gas supply due to maintenance problems at Pemex plants in Chiapas and Veracruz.

According to gas companies in Yucatan, they have only 60 percent of their installed capacity to meet demand. As an urgent measure, they are using less than full capacity to serve the population while the supply is normalized.

The shortage affects not just Merida but also the entire southeast region of Mexico. Gas stations and delivery personnel are waiting hours to fill up due to reduced service. The Pemex plant in Chiapas was supposed to be under maintenance for only a month, but technical complications have extended it, causing delays in LP gas supply.

To address this issue, Pemex has taken precautions by assigning the Pajaritos plant in Veracruz to supply the southeast region. However, transferring fuel from Tuxpan is taking longer than expected due to damage caused by hurricanes at the Tuxpan facility.
