Copa Airlines has announced the suspension of four international routes, effective early 2025. The affected airports include Tulum in Mexico, AIFA in Mexico City (promoted by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador), Cibao International Airport in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, and Armenia, Colombia.
The routes will be canceled on the following dates:
* AIFA: January 11
* Tulum: January 10
* Santiago de los Caballeros: January 9
* Armenia: January 19
According to Copa Airlines, these route suspensions are part of a network adjustment aimed at improving operational efficiency. The company will redirect resources to destinations with higher demand and strengthen other key markets.
The routes were operated using Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a capacity for 160 passengers. Passengers who have booked flights on these routes after their end date will be assisted in making refunds or changes.
It’s worth noting that the Tulum airport had recently welcomed its first Copa Airlines flight in June, and this suspension will likely impact air connectivity between Tulum and countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
At the time of the initial announcement, Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama highlighted the significance of the new route: “This is a historic day for Quintana Roo, marking a milestone in air connectivity and opening doors to over 60 destinations in Latin America that can now explore our territory through the Mayan Train and its stations.”
