Mazatlán’s Mayor, Estrella Palacios Domínguez, recently met with Canadian Consul Wendy Hardouin to develop a strategy aimed at enhancing the city’s image and ensuring the safety of the Canadian community residing there.
Palacios Domínguez, concerned about the potential withdrawal of Canada’s travel advisory against Mazatlán, held a private meeting with the consul. As the foreign community begins to arrive in the municipality, the objective is to provide guarantees and confidence for their temporary stay. To achieve this, operations are being reinforced at all three levels of government to ensure the security of the entire population.
The Mayor’s participation in an upcoming virtual meeting, proposed by Sinaloa’s Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, will include the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, the State, the Municipal Government of Mazatlán, and security forces. Palacios Domínguez extended an invitation to the Canadian consul to join this interdisciplinary effort.
“The installation of the worktable is to address a strategy, as requested by our Governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, with the purpose of ensuring that security is a guarantee for tourism, for foreign people who come to Mazatlán,” said Estrella Palacios.
With her expertise in the tourism sector, Palacios Domínguez promised to engage in direct dialogue with the Canadian community. She proposed holding this meeting immediately, as Canadians are arriving in Mazatlán for stays of up to six months.
“My personal commitment is to hold a meeting with the community and assure them that we are working hard on the issue of security, and we have a lot to do,” she said.
The Mayor invited the consul to join the inter-institutional work table, which will be held in the coming days. Through dialogues and commitments, Palacios Domínguez outlined her proposals to provide immediate attention to the security concerns.
