Migrant caravans defy US elections; two leave Chiapas

Entra Caravana Migrante En Plenas Elecciones De Eu

Just on the day of the US Elections, two caravans left Chiapas.

Almost 2,000 people left from 6 a.m. from the municipalities of Tapachula and Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

Migrant caravans leave Chiapas because “they are tired”
The migrants say they are tired of waiting for their documents, because the authorities do not attend to them, which causes them to be easy prey for organized crime during their stay.

“Whatever happens, we do not care about the Elections, we care that they let us leave here, because Immigration does not let us leave, unless we pay the cartel, along with the National Guard.”

Due to the high temperatures, some foreigners have suffered damage, although they have not accepted the help of the Civil Protection paramedics.

Members of the BETA group of the National Institute of Migration (INM), together with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, are protecting these foreigners who walk along the highway from Tuxtla to Berriozábal.

Most of them say they will not wait for the paperwork before the National Institute of Migration or the CBP ONE, which is why they decided to leave in these caravans.
