Christmas Bonus in Mexico: Deadline and 2024 Update

One of the most anticipated legal benefits for workers in Mexico is the Christmas bonus. As the end of the year approaches, many are eager to know the deadline for receiving it and whether it will be doubled in 2024.

Christmas Bonus 2024: Deadline and Amount

According to the Federal Labor Law (LFT), Article 87, all Mexican workers are entitled to a Christmas bonus, regardless of their employment type—permanent, trusted, plant, unionized, or by work.

Deadline: Employers must deposit the Christmas bonus by December 20 at the latest to avoid any issues.

Amount: Unfortunately, the reform to double the Christmas bonus has not been fully approved for 2024. Therefore, workers will receive the standard amount, which is at least the equivalent of 15 days of work (a fortnight). If you have not worked the entire year, you will receive a proportional amount.

Workers should expect their Christmas bonus payment in the coming days or weeks, ensuring it is not less than a fortnight’s pay and is received by the December 20 deadline.
