Querétaro will provide certainty to American investors

Of the 53 foreign investment projects in the pipeline for Querétaro, there are around 12 of American origin that will be consolidated soon, said the Secretary of Sustainable Development, Marco del Prete.

“We continue to consider announcements, we will be making investment announcements from American companies in the near future, the confidence of the United States in Querétaro is important,” he said.

Given the virtual victory of Donald Trump in the US presidency, he stressed that this country is the main investor in the state.

“The amount of investment announcements for the State of Querétaro and for the country, Querétaro occupies the first place, and the majority are American capitals, so we will have to wait and see. What we perceive is that the Trump government is going to be very protectionist,” he said.

He stressed that from the state government what they will seek is that there is certainty in the entity for investors, and to adapt to national and international policies.

He also indicated that the USMCA provides Mexico with clear measures such as controversy panels, operating mechanisms, among others.

“The advantage is that we have clear rules in the commercial relationship,” he stressed.

Although the review of the USMCA is in 2026, he considers that what the now virtual president expressed during his campaign with the threat of tariffs are comments and not actions.

“Let’s wait until January, when he takes office and from there we will see what the decisions are as head of the executive branch,” he said.

He asserted that there will always be threats with tariffs, and even Mexico has imposed 25% rates on foreign products, although there are tools to counteract the increases that may be imposed, which is the task of the federal government.

“Let us remember that we have an import substitution program promoted by the Ministry of Economy, in which steel and aluminum products have been taxed up to 25% with respect to their origin, and in that sense we are also discussing the impact in Mexico,” he said.
