Second Femicide Victim in November: Erika’s Tragic Case Adds to 29 in Chiapas

Erika “J,” a 23-year-old woman from Palenque who was seven months pregnant, was found buried in a house after being reported missing. The Commission for a Life Free of Violence for Women of the Feminist Collective 50 plus 1 informed about the case.

Her body was discovered in a private home following a search warrant issued after her family reported her disappearance on October 31. The Selva District Attorney’s Office activated the Alba Protocol search alert upon her disappearance.

On Tuesday, investigators conducted a search and exhumation at a private residence in Palenque, where Erika’s body was found. The Prosecutor’s Office against Femicide will now handle the investigation to clarify the facts and enforce the law.

The Commission for a Life Free of Violence for Women of the Feminist Collective 50 plus 1 expressed outrage over Erika’s femicide and that of her unborn daughter. They criticized the government’s lack of action against gender violence.

Erika is the second femicide victim in the first week of November, bringing the total number of femicide cases in Chiapas this year to 29. The group demanded that authorities ensure the safety and integrity of Erika’s family, who reported the violence she experienced with her partner and the father of her child.

The group emphasized the need for comprehensive care for the victim’s family, a gender-sensitive investigation, and urgent reparation for damages.
