Caintra is optimistic about Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election in the face of the review of the T-MEC, in 2026, declared the president of the industrial chamber in Nuevo León, Máximo Vedoya.

Regarding the North American trade agreement, Vedoya’s statement is a position contrary to that expressed by authorities of the federal Ministry of Economy, who predicted a protectionist attitude and opposed to free trade on the part of the US authorities.

However, Vedoya said that he ignores the position previously announced by both the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, and by the Undersecretary Vidal Llerenas, on what such an attitude is expected from the United States in the face of the review of the T-MEC.

“We see this with optimism. There will undoubtedly be things to talk about, such as migration, but we believe that there are conditions to work together and add the opportunities that exist. I think that we have to promote this North American industrial ecosystem.

“We have to continue with these policies to strengthen the region. We are preparing to support the Mexican government in its relationship with the United States. There will be a review of the T-MEC, which is very beneficial for both countries,” said the CEO of Ternium.

According to Vedoya, rather than “protectionism” on the part of the United States – as estimated by Ebrard and Llerenas – the neighboring country will take care of its competitiveness against countries that do not comply with the guidelines of the World Trade Organization, such as China.

“The United States’ position is that they are competing on an unequal basis because countries like China do not comply with the World Trade Organization, but Mexico is not in that situation.

“What Mexico has done very well is adapt to the United States’ position that we must fight trade from there, and fight trade from there (from China). What he predicted is a defense of the region against that; I would not call it protectionism,” added the president of Caintra NL.
