Hotel reservations in Mazatlán for the holiday season slow down by 8%

The Mazatlán Tres Islas Hotel Association reported that due to the insecurity situation that is being registered in other cities of Sinaloa, there has been a slowdown of between 7 to 8 percent in travel reservations for the Christmas season.

In the beach destination, the situation in general has become calm, but the problems that occur in other parts of the state have been detrimental, said the president of the organization, José Ramón Manguart Sánchez, in an interview.

Hotel reservations have been growing at a slower pace than in past years, which is why the slowdown of up to eight percent can be observed, but this scenario is expected to be reversed in the coming weeks, said the director.

Manguart Sánchez explained that this scenario is due to a matter of perception, because in reality in Mazatlán the conditions are generally calm and the insecurity situations are in other parts of Sinaloa.

Given this situation, the president of the Mazatlán Tres Islas Hotel Association reported that, in mid-October, meetings and promotional campaigns for the destination will begin in nine cities of the country.

“The tourism entrepreneurs of the destination together with the State Tourism Secretariat will have meetings with travel agents and tour operators from Durango, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Pachuca, Puebla, Toluca and Morelia,” he commented.
With this promotional strategy, what is sought is to reverse the perception of insecurity and with them that hotel reservations show greater growth compared to previous years, he mentioned.

“It is very important that we continue with national and international promotion, work that we carry out through an advisory council, with the participation of all the actors in the sector,” said Manguart Sánchez.

The director highlighted the growth of the hotel offer in recent years, with more than 13 thousand rooms currently.
