For the winter high season that is about to begin, hotels in downtown Playa del Carmen expect to reach up to 80 percent occupancy and maintain the figure until March.
This was announced by Offner Arjona, president of the Association of Small Hotels of Playa del Carmen, who said that, although most of the reservations are for a short time, the increase in numbers will be a relief for these hotels after the long low season, in which the numbers did not exceed 40 percent occupancy.
“Once again, we have every expectation of receiving as much oxygen as possible, we already have a base of reservations, however, they are for periods between 72 hours to 24 hours, and very last minute; We hope that in the last two weeks (of November) we will go up to 80 percent occupancy and maintain it from there until January, February and even March,” said Arjona
He said that 2024 was a very complicated year, with numbers almost as low as during the pandemic, however, they maintain high expectations for 2025, when they hope that circumstances will improve.
“The expectation is precisely this need to be able to get out of the water and get some oxygen. We have been going through a complex 2024, since April there have been a series of factors where micro-enterprises dedicated to tourism have been suffering; we have had different challenges, vacation rentals, bars and noise at night. We want 2024 to end, we have the expectation that 2025 will be a better year,” said the hotel leader of Playa del Carmen.
