Crime Taking Root in Campeche: Armentía

Highlighting the increase in crime rates such as home robberies, femicides, extortion, and property damage in Campeche, Deputy Pedro Armentía López of the Movimiento Ciudadano party warned that crime is taking root in the state.

Armentía stressed that extortion affects businessmen, churches, and small merchants in popular neighborhoods, which cannot be allowed. He called on the Secretariat of Citizen Protection and Security (SPSC) to establish the working group requested a month and a half ago, not to fight or argue, but to present a security strategy.

Armentía pointed out that resources allocated for security must be managed with transparency and that authorities cannot request more budget without specifying how it will be invested.

“The secretaries must present a clear development plan with concrete proposals to justify what they are asking for. It is not just about asking for more money, but about showing that work is being done to improve security,” he said.

The deputy also questioned the progress of the current administration in terms of security. After three years, instead of progress, there are setbacks, indicating that the overall strategy is not working.

“I saw patrols parked in some areas such as the boardwalk, but I have not seen them circulating. I think they were going to graduate a generation to compensate for the more than 100 police dismissals, and we hope that the graduates are already taking care of the citizens,” he added.

Finally, the legislator reported that the Security Commission of the local Congress has scheduled a session for today to discuss a new exhortation, asking the Secretary of Security to explain how the assigned resources are being used.
