A TikToker has shared her perspective on why Yucatan is one of the safest states in Mexico, attributing it to the unique behavior of its inhabitants.
According to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), from January to September 2024, Yucatan recorded a total of 3,141 common crimes. In contrast, Aguascalientes had a total of 84,541 crimes during the same period.
In this context, TikToker Vicky revealed the secret behind Yucatan’s safety: “We are gossipers,” she said. Vicky explained that Yucatecans are always aware of their surroundings, making it easy to alert authorities in case of a potential crime.
In an additional video, Vicky mentioned that the high temperatures in Yucatan also deter people from committing crimes, as they prefer to stay indoors and enjoy the coolness of their homes.
Dozens of TikTok users agreed with Vicky’s observations, commenting that Yucatecans are always up to date with what is happening around them. Some users noted, “What she says is true, half of the women in Yucatan are very gossipy, and the other half too,” while others added, “In Yucatan, they know everything,” and “They are not gossips, they are a united community.”
