Cold Weather Reduces Dengue Cases in Sinaloa

Ahome ranks fourth in dengue cases in the state, following Mazatlán, Culiacán, and Guasave.

The drop in temperatures in northern Sinaloa has led to a decrease in dengue cases in recent days, according to Victor Manuel Lim Zavala, head of Health Jurisdiction 01.

Hospitalizations

The official reported that, as of yesterday, 435 confirmed cases have been registered since the beginning of the year, with 14 people currently hospitalized for the disease. Ahome ranks fourth in dengue cases at the state level, behind Mazatlán, Culiacán, and Guasave. The main symptoms of dengue include fever, headache, muscle and bone pain, and general malaise.

Impact of Low Temperatures

“The cold modifies the biological cycle of the mosquito that transmits the disease, causing the number of dengue cases to decrease. In the last three days, we have noticed a reduction in the demand for hospitalizations,” Lim Zavala said. He added that, although the low temperatures have not yet intensified, the recent decrease in infections represents an encouraging outlook for the region’s hospitals.
