Cancun and Riviera Maya to Surpass Puerto Vallarta During Long Weekend

The Mexican Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) predicts that Cancun and the Riviera Maya will lead hotel occupancy during the long weekend from November 15 to 18, surpassing Puerto Vallarta. This period, which commemorates the Mexican Revolution and coincides with the “Buen Fin” shopping event, is expected to attract a significant influx of national and international visitors to these Mexican Caribbean destinations.

High Occupancy Rates

Sectur anticipates high levels of hotel occupancy in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, with rates of 86.4% and 85.7%, respectively, surpassing the 81.9% projected for Puerto Vallarta. This increase is partly due to the promotions and discounts offered during the “Buen Fin,” which encourages tourism sector spending.

Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora reported that the nationwide average hotel occupancy rate is expected to be 70.1%, a slight increase of 0.7 percentage points compared

Another 2.16 million tourists will opt for alternative accommodations, such as visits to family and friends or second homes.

Rodríguez Zamora estimates the economic impact for accommodation services alone at 3,399 million pesos (170 million dollars), a 6.1% increase compared to last year.
