The Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat (Sedetur) reported 23,957 active vacation rentals across 13 tourist destinations until October, distributed in 11 municipalities. With an average rate of $157 per night, rental platforms have become a significant option for visitors. Cancun leads with 7,300 active rentals, while Akumal boasts the highest rates, averaging $265 per night, followed by Holbox at $191 and Tulum at $186.
Hotel occupancy averaged over 40% during the third quarter, except for Felipe Carrillo Puerto, which reached 39%. These figures indicate a tourism performance below expectations, prompting authorities to enhance their promotion strategies.
Andrés Martínez, director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), emphasized the importance of international campaigns ahead of the high season from December to February. “We are ensuring a high tourist influx with new airlines and frequencies, consolidating Quintana Roo as a leading destination,” he said.
The CPTQ is also preparing for its participation in FITUR 2024 in Madrid, with over 30 companies and hotel associations from the state, occupying 40% of the Mexican pavilion. Additionally, cultural events like the Mexico Music Fest, replacing the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, aim to boost tourism during low occupancy seasons.
As reported by REPORTUR.mx, the regularization of rooms rented through digital platforms is expected to generate at least 200 million pesos (about $10 million) annually for the Sanitation Right concept. Miguel Ángel Zenteno, municipal trustee of Benito Juárez, recently stated that this year’s goal of 750 million pesos will be exceeded.
