The Feminist Collective of Tulum has issued a warning about the possible presence of Jonathan Joel Sotelo Félix, known as “The Bumble Scammer,” in the city. Sotelo Félix is accused of using the Bumble app to arrange dates with women, gain their trust, and then deceive them into giving him money and goods.
Social Media Alert
The case gained attention on social media when Fernanda García, Sotelo Félix’s most recent girlfriend, revealed that she discovered a list of 79 women who had fallen victim to his scams. García shared her story to prevent other women from being deceived. Among the items she paid for was the mortgage of an apartment in Tulum, where Sotelo Félix flaunted a luxurious lifestyle on social media.
Collective’s Response
Lorena Andrade, a member of the Tulum Feminist Collective, announced plans to launch a campaign to spread awareness about Sotelo Félix’s identity and his “modus operandi.” Andrade emphasized the importance of informing and supporting each other to prevent further victimization.
“This case is different because it involves someone who can manipulate and abuse trust, rather than a street-level threat,” Andrade explained. The collective aims to protect women from falling prey to such schemes by raising awareness and encouraging vigilance.
