Taxi and transportation workers in the municipality of Los Cabos have experienced several months of constant tension due to the lack of regulation in the tourism sector, where the State Government reported that it will implement new software to keep track, in addition to establishing measures to guarantee an orderly and safe service for travelers.
José Saúl González Núñez, general secretary of the Government of Baja California Sur, said that in the last months of the year there were considerable advances in the regulation of tourist transportation, highlighting that companies in the sector can operate through pre-contracted services.
This system, which is about to be implemented, will be regulated by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) and seeks to offer greater control and transparency in the provision of the service.
Commitments with unions
During the working tables with municipal and state authorities and transporters, technical and legal issues were discussed, including the regulatory framework for tax
is and other modes of transport to which all those who work with tourists must adhere.
The state official highlighted the relevance of the achievements that have been achieved to date, mentioning that the objective sought “is to have a balance in all categories of transport, which will allow greater order and security for both the population and those who visit us.”
In addition, he commented that an agreement was established to increase the number of inspectors who will operate in Los Cabos, with the objective of reinforcing supervision and preventing irregular transfer services from being provided.
“We have already improved some important points. The next step will be for the unions to learn about the new software and adapt to the new rules. This will guarantee that all pre-contracted services are up to date,” he said.
