San Miguel de Allende prohibits driving in vehicles with tinted windows; escorts must be authorized by authorities

The Government of San Miguel de Allende imposed measures to prevent the arrival of criminals to the city.

No vehicle with tinted windows will be able to circulate in this territory, to enter the municipality the “guaruras” must have an authorization from the State Security Secretariat and the service providers are obliged to install video surveillance systems.

Mayor Mauricio Trejo Pureco reported that these measures will be applied from “now”, given the acts of violence “that have left us impressed” in several entities of the Mexican Republic, such as Michoacán, Querétaro Sinaloa, Hidalgo, state of Mexico, even within the state of Guanajuato.

“When we see our neighbor’s beards cut, we put ours to soak,” announced the PRI mayor on his social networks, and emphasized his purpose of preserving San Miguel de Allende as “the Sanctuary of Security” in the country.

The official warned that from now on all cars with tinted windows will be stopped and taken to the impound lot as established by the regulations.

He added that from today, in order to open a restaurant, bar, tavern or hotel, those interested will have to install a closed circuit with cameras of the models established by the Municipal Security Secretariat, so that no one goes unnoticed.

“If you come to commit a crime, we will see your face, we will follow you, we will catch you,” he added.

The mayor warned that there will be “zero tolerance” for “bodyguards,” who must prove that they belong to an association and show the respective permits.

He commented that San Miguel de Allende is a safe city and people do not need to bring bodyguards.

“Whoever wants to bring bodyguards will have to prove that they have or belong to an association or some police or security institution and that credential will have to be valid, they will have to carry their weapons.”

He stressed that the “bodyguards” will have to present the document in which they notify the State Public Security Secretariat of the commission they are going to carry out, and at the same time the state agency will have to notify the municipal administration of those who are legally carrying weapons in San Miguel de Allende.

Otherwise, those people or their weapons will be sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. He reiterated that the measures are in force from now on, because they do not want San Miguel de Allende to stop being that security bubble at a national level.
