The National Museum of Mexican Railways (MNFM), of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, will hold the traditional gala concert Sinfonía Vapor, which will be performed by the Symphony Orchestra of the State of Puebla (under the direction of maestro David Hernández Bretón), as well as the Municipal Symphony Band of Puebla (directed by maestro Gabriel Xique Tepale).
Sinfonía Vapor is a work for symphony orchestra, band and trains written in 1869 by the Mexican composer Melesio Morales on the occasion of the inauguration of the Mexican Railway station in the city of Puebla. This work incorporates real sounds of steam engines as another instrument of the orchestra, which is why it constitutes a precedent of musical machinery and made its author recognized as the pioneer of descriptive, evocative and mechanical music in Mexico.
Also, as part of this concert of Mexican and railroad music, the following works will be performed: Música para charlar (1938), by Silvestre Revueltas; Las cuatro estaciones (2005), by Arturo Márquez; La Máquina (2011), by Josué Collado Fregoso; Máquina Férrea (2005), by Leonardo Coral; and Máquina 501. El Héroe de Nacozari (2011), by Francisco Javier G. Compean.
As every year, there will be a special participation of the OdeM2 locomotive, built by the H. K. Porter Locomotive Works in 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which is part of the MNFM collections.
This year, the valuable collaborations of Grupo México, the Ministry of Culture of the government of the state of Puebla and the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture will be added to this great event.
The Vapor Symphony concert will take place on Saturday, November 30 at 1:00 p.m. at the National Museum of Mexican Railways, located at 11 Norte 1005, Historic Center of the City of Puebla. Admission is free. There will be no parking available to the public.
