The coordinator of the Hagamos bench in the Congress of Jalisco, Tonatiuh Bravo Padilla, stated that he is analyzing the impact that the new fee that the Puerto Vallarta City Council intends to charge foreign tourists would have, which must be approved by the Legislature in order to be applied.
MURAL published that on November 15, the Vallarta City Council, at the request of Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía, of the Green Party, authorized the inclusion in the Municipal Income Law of 2025 of the collection of 1.25 Measurement and Update Units, 135.71 pesos, to foreign visitors for the enjoyment of services, goods and public spaces for one year.
In order for the imposition approved by the Vallarta councillors to become final, the support of the Plenary of the local Congress is required, however, on this issue the MC deputy Gabriela Cárdenas declared at the time that the arguments for this charge must be reviewed, while the MORENA deputy Marta Arizmendi anticipated that her bench would “beat” the quota for tourists.
“We are reviewing the impact that this would have on the tourism sector and on the influx of visitors, and also on the example that would be set for other Municipalities that have the same conditions,” declared the Hagamista legislator Bravo Padilla.
“We are already concluding an analysis, in the next session of the Commission (of Finance) we are going to listen to opinions and ask the president (Gabriela Cárdenas) to schedule it so that we can discuss it,” he added.
According to the deputy of Hagamos, all new contributions, such as the fee that is intended to be established for visitors from other countries in Puerto Vallarta, require a detailed analysis.
“For us, every new contribution is the subject of a detailed analysis,” he said.
The deputies of the Green Party, Yussara Canales and José Guadalupe Buenrostro, have also warned that, in addition to the fact that the responsibility for the new fee would be of the Vallarta City Council, in the Legislative the matter will have to be analyzed with a “magnifying glass.”
