The passenger train project that will connect the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) with the city of Pachuca, Hidalgo, continues to advance with 70% in the definition of its preliminary route, the objective is to have the optimal railway by the end of this year, considering environmental, archaeological and commercial factors, which will allow the works to begin in March or April 2025.

The project, executed by the Felipe Ángeles Engineering Group of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), contemplates a 55-kilometer route that will connect the AIFA with the city of Pachuca. The project is practically an extension of the Suburban Train passenger service that currently operates in Lechería, “it is a double-track section for passengers that is electrified with catenary, that is, they are electric trains,” explained Commander Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suárez at a conference.

“It is a passenger train with a confined track, which will not have level crossings, and must maintain a safety speed” of 120 kilometers per hour, with main stations at the terminals and stations along the route in towns, according to demand studies, “we have a construction time limit of one year and six months for this railway,” he explained.

Additional railway projects

Along with this progress, progress was also reported on other key railway projects, such as the Mexico-Querétaro route, which is already 35% complete in its preliminary layout. This line, with a length of 240 kilometers, is designed to connect the Metropolitan Area of Mexico City with Querétaro, allowing speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour.

The Engineering Group will also be in charge of this project, whose construction is estimated to begin in parallel with the AIFA-Pachuca train. In total, 157 billion pesos will be allocated in 2025 for all federal government train projects.
