Aboard a fully electric, futuristic-looking Mercedes-AMG EQS, my arrival at the imposing Casa de Sierra Nevada, Belmond Hotel, in San Miguel de Allende, was in absolute harmony.
The reason for this visit, curated by the specialists at NUBA (a travel agency specializing in designing tailor-made luxury experiences), was to get to know a creative scene championed by globally impactful people who display their talent in the area. Under this premise, the destination’s exquisite spaces, sheltered by internationally prestigious brands such as Belmond, create warm creative encounters that stand out in the national tourist offer.
One of them took place at Tunki Rooftop by Handshake, the hotel’s bar, which was inaugurated last year, the result of an exclusive collaboration with Handshake, the best bar in the world, according to “The World’s 50 Best Bars”, whose ranking was recently revealed in Madrid.
On her terrace, facing the parish of San Miguel Arcángel, Gladys Tamez, founder of Gladys Tamez Millinery, revealed the origin of her inspiration from personal references coined over time, which are enriched by the vision of her clients, including celebrities such as Beyoncé and Lady Gaga. It was all part of Tunky Talks, a creative talk show that gave voice to characters who enrich the international creative scene.
After the conversation, and in search of new sources of inspiration, I arrived at the Mía restaurant, after walking a few blocks. Here, chef Eduardo Zorrilla took over the kitchen for one night to offer an immersion in his culinary proposal, which seeks to refresh the gourmet offering of the destinations where he lands.
The chef’s career includes stays in luxury properties in the United States and Canada, as well as Casa de Sierra Nevada, and Belmond Hotel, where he was executive chef. Among his plans, he revealed after dinner, are the opening of restaurants in Oaxaca, Brownsville and San Miguel de Allende itself, where he is preparing a wine bar that will have gastronomic accents with a taste of the sea.
After a couple of hours, my steps pointed to a new location: La Casa Dragones, which dates back to 1671 and offers an encounter with the different liquid expressions of the tequila company, including its most recent addition: Casa Dragones Reposado Mizunara.
The march of aromas, flavors and experiences continues, incessantly, in San Miguel de Allende when the return to the hotel, housed in a historic mansion, seems like the perfect end to an impeccable day.
