With the recent addition of seven people, Sonora has almost a hundred Cuban doctors providing health care within the IMSS Bienestar.
The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) indicates that the incorporation of these professionals, almost all of them specialists, seeks to reduce the deficit in the region, filling the available vacancies.
Gabriela Nucamendi Cervantes, delegate of the system, indicated that there are 96 doctors from the island who provide their services in various municipalities of the Mexican entity, mainly in community hospitals.
The official said that next year more Cuban doctors could be received in the state, who receive a salary that was not revealed, but that is in accordance with what is established by the national salary scale.
“They receive their salary according to the scheme that we apply to all doctors in the country,” said Nucamendi.
In early November, 199 Cuban doctors from 29 specialties arrived in Mexico and were sent to 24 Mexican entities, the Cuban Embassy in Mexico said.
Around 3,650 Cuban health workers are providing their services in the country.
