The Shangrila Hotel, located on 38th Street in Playa del Carmen, woke up without a beach on Monday, much to the disappointment of its visitors. Tourists who came to enjoy the Caribbean were surprised to find no sand.
Adding to the disappointment, the waters of the Mexican Caribbean were rough due to strong north winds and sea currents, making swimming inadvisable.
Naomi Noguez, a tourist from the State of Mexico who arrived in Playa del Carmen with her family, expressed her disappointment. She mentioned that they had spent several months planning and saving for a vacation in the Riviera Maya, choosing Playa del Carmen for its tranquility and beautiful beaches. Due to the unexpected conditions, they decided to leave the city and explore the beaches of Cancun or other nearby destinations.
