In a major step forward in the rescue efforts, another heavy unit of the four tractor-trailers that remained buried after the landslide occurred at kilometer 231 of highway 150-D, Puebla-Orizaba, known as El Mirador, in the section of Cumbres de Maltrata.
A team of 38 workers is working intensive shifts, from 06:00 to 20:00 hours, to speed up the reopening of this important road, affected by tons of earth and stone for more than five weeks. In addition to the recovered tractor-trailer, two compact vehicles have also been rescued.
The work is being carried out by Grúas Grisa, in coordination with Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe) and the Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT). Although the work has advanced, the authorities have indicated that it will not be until January 31 when two temporary lanes will be enabled. The definitive solution to the landslide could take until mid-year.
Due to the closure of the section heading to Puebla, authorities recommend taking the following alternate routes:
Route 1: Puebla – Nogales – Ciudad Mendoza – Acultzingo – Azumbilla – Esperanza – Puebla.
Route 2: Veracruz – Xalapa – Perote – Puebla – Mexico City.
Drivers traveling on these routes are asked to bring food and be patient, as landslides continue to complicate traffic in the area.
The rescue of this unit represents an important step in the efforts to completely clear the highway after the landslide, vital for the connection between Puebla and Orizaba, Veracruz, although removal and rehabilitation work is still ongoing.
