Americans Shot in Mexico While Police Were Present but Did Nothing

Two American tourists, including a US Army veteran who is fighting for his life in Arizona, were shot by armed men while driving through the Mexican city of Caborca. Despite being present at the scene, local police did nothing to help them.

According to Mckim Robert Vance, one of the two Americans, they were chased by gunmen after their jeep was stopped on the road by two vehicles with their lights off. The police initially seemed ready to pull them over for speeding, but when they realized the danger, they turned off their lights and sped away in the opposite direction.

As the pursuers opened fire again, Thomas, 44, was shot in the back of the shoulder and the back of the head. He was rushed to Caborca General Hospital and then flown to Nogales, Arizona where he remains fighting for his life.

Vance wants to warn others who plan on passing through the area not to take these routes. The state prosecutor has launched an investigation into the shooting and is working to determine the motives of the gunmen.
