Zempoala became the epicenter of agricultural innovation by hosting the State Forum for the Sustainable Development of Maguey 2024, an event that brought together producers, authorities and specialists to chart a promising future around this emblematic plant of Hidalgo.
The meeting, led by the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hidalgo (Saderh), stood out for proposing concrete actions to strengthen the productive chain of maguey, with an emphasis on sustainability and positive economic impact on rural communities.
Key strategies for the growth of the sector
Among the agreements reached, the implementation of standardized guides that will facilitate the mobilization of maguey products and byproducts was announced, as well as the creation of an official registry of producers. These measures seek to organize and optimize state production.
Another highlight was the proposal to install nurseries in various municipalities, an initiative that, added to the development of a State Law on Maguey, will benefit hundreds of families that depend on this activity.
Leadership and government commitment
Napoleón González Pérez, head of Saderh, highlighted the strategic role of maguey in Hidalgo, highlighting that the state leads the national production of maguey pulque.
The forum included working tables that addressed crucial issues such as health, tourism, comprehensive use of maguey, regulations and training, with the aim of developing solutions that promote sustainable and cultural development around this plant.
Culture, commerce and tradition
The event also offered a commercial and gastronomic exhibition that allowed attendees to enjoy products derived from maguey, such as pulque, honey and crafts. This space served as a platform to promote local consumption and the preservation of Hidalgo traditions.
Broad institutional participation
Prominent figures such as federal deputy Mirna María de la Luz Rubio and local legislators Lizbeth Ordaz and Mónica Reyes participated in the forum. Also in attendance were municipal presidents from various localities, including Yazmín Dávila (Singuilucan), Zorayda Robles (Apan) and Marina Ramírez (Almoloya), who reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the sector.
