The construction of a new passenger train in San Luis Potosí is set to begin in 2025, as announced by federal authorities this week. The project will involve an investment of 157 billion pesos and will include four railway sections for passenger trains.

Key Routes and Investment

The Federal Government will start construction in the first half of 2025, focusing on the following routes:

– AIFA-Pachuca

– Mexico-Querétaro

– Querétaro-Irapuato

– Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo

President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that the Felipe Ángeles Engineering Group, part of the National Defense Secretariat (DEFENSA), will oversee the AIFA-Pachuca and Mexico-Querétaro sections. Meanwhile, the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) will handle the Querétaro-Irapuato and Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo sections.

New Train Stations

San Luis Potosí will have a new passenger train station in its capital. The Railroad Museum will be repurposed as a station for the Mexico-San Luis Potosí-Nuevo Laredo route. Additionally, an area of the cultural complex may be adapted for boarding, making it a new connection point within the planned train network.

There is also a possibility of expanding the building towards the front, in the area of Alameda Juan Sarabia, between 20 de Noviembre and Vicente Chico Sein streets. Another station is planned for Estación Catorce in the municipality of Matehuala.
