“Traffic is horrible”; residents of the capital describe the daily chaos in Mexico City

“Traffic is stingy and we feel that it has increased now during the Christmas season,” says Erick Flores, a driver from the capital who mentions that the time spent traveling by car has increased during this December season.

The perception of the increase in traffic by the citizens of the great metropolis of Mexico is increasing, where some argue the concern of the large number of vehicles that circulate through the city.

“I feel that traffic is horrible, it increased since the Buen Fin and we arrive late to all places, a trip that took us half an hour, now takes us up to two hours,” says Norma, a driver.

In a tour of the main streets of Mexico City, the heavy vehicular load on avenues such as Eje Central, Río Churubusco, Tlalpan and Ejes viales was confirmed, which show an increase in cars, some of them waiting up to two traffic lights to cross from one point to another.

“The trailers are already circulating everywhere, they cover almost two lanes and it makes it difficult to move forward, I have even seen motorcycle traffic,” added Erick.

According to the capital’s residents, rush hour is already all day long, and the litany of leaving home an hour early for work no longer seems like a good option, when protests and blockades also make traffic difficult.

Drivers say that traffic is also attributed to shopping malls, where the entrances to parking lots are congested.
