Durango-Mazatlán ‘Super’ highway closed due to trailer crash; one person reportedly died

Early this Saturday morning, December 7, the Durango-Mazatlán highway was the scene of another tragic accident between heavy vehicles, which unofficially left one person dead.

The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m., at kilometer 166 of the superhighway that connects the cities of Durango and Mazatlán, near the “El Carrizo” bridge, where two trailers were involved in a head-on collision.

After the impact of the heavy vehicles, both began to burn in flames, causing the total loss of both trailers.

The incident was reported to the emergency numbers, and members of the Fire Department and security authorities attended the scene, working in the area to put out the flames.

Unofficially, it is said that one of the drivers of the units would have lost his life on the spot, after being trapped in the crash and being burned by the fire; however, so far the authorities have not confirmed or denied the information.

Authorities will be in charge of carrying out the corresponding investigations to clarify the cause of the accident, which is believed to have been caused by a mechanical failure of one of the units.

Traffic closure announced

From the time the incident occurred, through the X account of Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe) the total closure of traffic on the superhighway was announced, in both directions.

This morning, until around 11:50 hours, Capufe announced that the closure of the road continues, due to attention to the accident and removal of the material that was left on the highway after the accident.

It is expected that in the next few hours the opening of the Durango-Mazatlán superhighway will be announced. For the time being, drivers are advised to avoid this route and stay up to date with traffic updates on the highway.
