Migration routes to the United States have become increasingly dangerous over the years, taking the lives of those seeking a better future.

A tragic example of this reality occurred on December 9, 2021 on the Chiapa de Corzo highway, Chiapas, when a trailer accident left 56 people dead and 113 injured.

This event once again demonstrated the devastating impact of this problem, especially for Guatemalans, of whom 42 lost their lives.

The accident was described by local and international media as the deadliest involving migrants trying to cross irregularly into the United States.
