According to measurements by the Association of Hotels and Motels of Ensenada, in the last two decades the municipality of Ensenada has not managed to go from 40 to 50% hotel occupancy, revealed Andrés Martínez Bremer, who recently took office as president of Proturismo de Ensenada.
“In 20 years we have had all kinds of administrations from different parties, but it has nothing to do with it, it has been 20 years since we went from 40 to 50%, we have had financial crises, health crises and security crises even more serious than in recent times, except for Covid, which lowered our occupancy much more, in these 20 years we have lived and relived the same thing and yet we do not get out of those percentages,” he declared.
The official mentioned that there is concern in the hotel sector because this year the influx of visitors has decreased.
We set ourselves the task of analyzing why, being Ensenada a destination that has so many attributes, why we can’t leave, that Ensenada has between 40 and 50% in the last 20 years is unacceptable, it should be above 60% constantly for all the benefits and advantages that we have”,
What people think of Ensenada
In that sense, he commented that they recently made an analysis of about 25 thousand comments on social networks about what people think of Ensenada as a destination.
“A survey is very different because there you ask in certain ways, here we are talking about what people feel, those who visit us and went to a restaurant, a vineyard, a hotel or any tourist experience and what they publish on their networks”, he argued.
The businessman also said that most of the comments were positive, but the important thing is to concentrate on the weaknesses to improve the experiences and with it the hotel occupancy.
“We divided it between Ensenada and Valle de Guadalupe, and we realized that most of the negative comments people think that we lack attention from the staff, that we are noisy, that we need to remodel our hotels, our facilities, our restaurants, that we lack cleanliness, maintenance, poor quality-price ratio, high prices,” he explained.
Martínez Bremer said that people’s perception is that Ensenada has lost competitiveness.
“It is a very important fact, we must create working groups, sit down and analyze what we are not seeing, what we are not doing and what we can do better, because clearly we are lacking,” he said.
