The State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE) of Sonora confirmed that in the early hours of December 11, a man was killed during an attack on a tractor-trailer traveling on Federal Highway 2, which connects Sonoyta with Caborca.
Details shared by the corporation through social networks indicate that the events occurred around 02:15 hours at kilometer 213 of the aforementioned road.
“A direct attack with gunfire against a tractor-trailer was reported, resulting in the death of the co-pilot,” the Attorney General’s Office specified. Witnesses interviewed by security elements reported that the detonations were carried out by subjects traveling aboard a brown Ford Lobo pickup truck.
Despite the burst of bullets, the driver of the tractor-trailer continued his journey until reaching a gas station at kilometer 112, where the support of the authorities was requested. Upon arrival, ministerial agents processed the scene and began collecting evidence.
“The lifeless body of Gerardo “N”, 49 years old, residing in Tijuana, Baja California, was found in the unit,” the agency said about the death of the co-pilot.
Unofficial versions indicate that the heavy vehicle that received the shots belonged to a transport company established in Toluca, State of Mexico. Presumably, the passenger driver was unconscious minutes after being hit by several bullets.
Later, when they arrived at the aforementioned gas station, Red Cross paramedics confirmed that Gerardo “N” no longer had vital signs. Preliminary, it was reported that he had received gunshot wounds in the chest.
