US Army gets green light: Mexican Senate approves entry into training work

The Senate of the Republic approved two opinions on Tuesday authorizing the requests of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to allow the entry of elements of the United States Army into national territory, as well as the exit of members of the Mexican Army, both cases for training purposes.

With a total of 102 votes in favor, the Upper House approved, in general and in particular, an opinion that grants authorization to allow the entry of elements of the US Army in the exercise “Strengthening the Capacity of the Special Operations Forces of the Secretariat of National Defense.”

While the other opinion that authorizes the exit of elements of the Secretariat of National Defense (Senate), in order for them to participate in the International Competition “Swat Challenge”, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was approved with 103 votes in favor.

Why will US military personnel enter Mexico?

Regarding the US Army, the entry of 11 instructors from the 7th Special Forces Group of the Northern Command of the United States of America was approved, to participate in a joint training program with the Sedena, called “Strengthening the Capacity of the Special Operations Forces of the Secretariat of National Defense.”

This event will be carried out in two phases: the first will be held at the facilities of the Special Forces Training Center in the municipality of Temamatla, State of Mexico, from January 27 to March 28, 2025.

While the second will be held at the National Training Center in Santa Gertrudis, Chihuahua, from March 24 to 27 of next year.

It should be noted that this training program aims to improve the operational and response capacity of the Mexican Special Operations Forces.

This is achieved through collaboration with elements of the United States Army, who will share their advanced combat techniques, tactical operations and security strategies, adapted to the specific needs of Mexico’s national security.
