A fire broke out around 2 p.m. on Thursday in the “Buyan” skyscraper in the Montes de Amé subdivision, north of Mérida. Initial reports suggest the fire may have been caused by a short circuit or a gas tank explosion. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The fire occurred on the tenth floor of the building. The H. Fire Department of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) managed to extinguish the flames shortly before 3 p.m. Some residents were evacuated, and no human losses were reported. The operations were supervised by the Secretary of Public Security, Luis Felipe Saidén.
Police officers have cordoned off the area to facilitate the investigation and prevent further incidents. Experts are working on-site to determine the exact cause of the fire.
