Clandestine Grave with 10 Bodies Discovered in Quintana Roo

Authorities in Quintana Roo have discovered a clandestine grave containing at least 10 bodies in the community of Kantunilkín, near the town of San Ángel in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas. The discovery was made following an anonymous tip, which prompted a significant police operation.

The Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the discovery around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. Information about the grave began to emerge after dawn on Friday, December 13, following initial investigations that revealed the location of the bodies. The difficult-to-access area complicated search efforts, but experts with specialized equipment continue to investigate the timing and causes of death.

Identity of the Remains

The identities of the deceased and their potential links to missing people in the region have not yet been revealed. The discovery has caused alarm among the inhabitants of San Ángel and Kantunilkín. The Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that new excavations will be conducted, as more bodies may be found. The bodies were discovered in holes in the ground and are estimated to be approximately four years old.

The investigation involves elements of the state Prosecutor’s Office, the Secretariat of Citizen Security, and expert anthropologists working to preserve and identify the remains. The Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office stated that the search for human remains will continue in the area, as there are more holes to be thoroughly reviewed.
