Mérida Teacher Arrested for Alleged Assault on Student

A teacher at a private school in Mérida has been arrested following accusations of assaulting a minor. The incident reportedly occurred when the teacher attempted to confiscate the student’s cell phone for unknown reasons.

The father of the injured minor reported the case to the authorities after learning about the incident. He claimed that two teachers were involved in the assault on his daughter and hopes that the second teacher will also be arrested. The parents have filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office for child abuse.

According to the father, the student had recorded a situation at school, prompting the teacher to try to take her cell phone. The minor resisted, leading to the alleged assault. The student contacted her parents, who arrived at the school and sought support from the authorities. The school has not yet made a statement on the matter.

The latest information indicates that the teacher’s arrest on Thursday stemmed from a fight with the minor’s mother. Both women were detained and later released after mediation by Prosecutor’s Office agents. The parents’ complaint against the teacher is still under investigation, and the recent arrest is not related to this case.
