Shortly after the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) gave the green light to start operations of the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force (FRIP) in Comitán, alleged gang members blocked the entrances and exits of that city located in the border region.
In his message, the head of the FGE, Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca, said that the government headed by Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar “is trustworthy, produces results and respects the law.”
He added that “yes, we guarantee freedoms, but also the rule of law. We are more good people. We are going to pacify Comitán,” where Ramírez Aguilar is from.
Shortly after the deployment of dozens of FRIP officers in the morning, a group of individuals, some hooded, crossed vehicles and blocked the entrance and exit to the city.
“El Barzón is already at the exit to Las Margaritas, well positioned. Barzón is well positioned. Here we are, the compas of El Barzón,” a man is heard saying at the beginning of the blockade, according to a video posted on social media.
In the afternoon, the SSP assured in a statement that “in view of the blockades that occurred at the entrances and exits of Comitán by gang members that affect the traffic and safety of people, the public is informed that it is now completely free to transit.”
It added: “The SSP in coordination with the FGE, is present safeguarding the integrity of the inhabitants of this municipality, supported by the FRIP, who are already operating in this region and who are undoubtedly working hard to ensure peace and tranquility in Comitán lands.”
On his social networks, Governor Ramírez Aguilar said that “in the security operation that is being carried out in Comitán, I categorically instructed the Secretary of Public Security, and in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office, the unrestricted application of the law.”
He added: “Enough of impunity for crimes that harm the people of Chiapas! The law is not negotiable. There is authority and there will be order; the times when they did what they wanted are over. I guarantee that there will be free transit. There are more of us who want to live in peace. The people elected us and the people support us!”
The SSP and the FGE did not detail how the protesters were evicted, nor whether there were injuries or arrests.
This is the first eviction carried out by members of the FRIP, created by the current state government that began operations on the 8th of this month, headed by the head of the SSP, Óscar Alberto Aparicio Avendaño, who until last month served as Undersecretary of Security in Zacatecas.
