Taxi Drivers in Playa del Carmen Face Trial for Assault on Tourists

Two taxi drivers, Daniel “N” and José Alejandro “N,” are facing trial for their involvement in an assault on tourists in Playa del Carmen. The incident occurred on November 22 at the entrance of an ecotourism park.

The drivers allegedly surrounded a private vehicle, mistaking the driver for a digital platform service provider. They threatened the driver, forced the tourists out of the vehicle, and made them get into a taxi. Daniel “N” was the first to be detained.

Both defendants are under preventive detention for the duration of the trial. They are charged with crimes against health in the form of drug dealing. The State Attorney General’s Office provided evidence, leading to their prosecution. A Control Judge assessed the evidence and decreed a writ of linkage to trial for both defendants.

The Social Representation initiated an investigation file, gathering legal elements for prosecution. José Alejandro “N” is also charged with crimes against health in the form of drug dealing. The court imposed preventive detention on both defendants during the trial process.
