More than 5,000 vehicles of civilians, with an estimated 20,000 compatriots, crossed into Mexico through Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, within the framework of the Queretana Caravan. The security operation had the collaboration of the National Institute of Migration (INM), the National Guard, the Defense, the State Guard and municipal authorities, to guarantee a safe trip to the compatriots.
The head of the INM in Tamaulipas, Seguismundo Doguín Martínez, highlighted the agility of the crossing, facilitated by the authorities of Laredo, Texas and the municipality of Nuevo Laredo.
The compatriots were given a warm welcome with Mexican flags, while authorities from different levels of government were in charge of providing security and support on the roads. Verónica Loredo, Undersecretary of Tourism of Tamaulipas, recalled the existence of safe stations and the surveillance of the Ángeles Verdes program, which add to the efforts to protect travelers during this season.
The operation also had the support of authorities in Querétaro, where 80 officers and 35 units were deployed to accompany the migrants during their journey.
This event, which marks the 18th edition of the Migrantes Unidos en Caravana A.C. program, is especially significant for the countrymen who return to their states of origin, such as Querétaro, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas, to celebrate the December holidays with their families.
