On Thursday night, elements of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) arrested six men and one woman traveling in two luxury vehicles on the Dzibilchaltún-Mérida highway. The individuals were found carrying short and long firearms, along with cartridges of various calibers.
State police, conducting routine surveillance in the north of Mérida due to increased operations during the December holidays, noticed a black Dodge Durango pickup truck and a black Mercedes Benz car traveling in convoy with very dark tinted windows. The vehicles stopped at a convenience store, and when one occupant exited, officers observed what appeared to be a firearm at his waist. The police requested support.
Arrest and Seizure
Elements of the State Investigation Police (PEI) of the SSP arrived and confirmed the presence of a firearm. A preventive search of the other occupants revealed six handguns, two long guns, a long gun converter, cartridges of different calibers, chargers, and two telecommunications radios. All items, along with the vehicles, were seized and handed over to the competent ministerial authorities.
