It was a few weeks ago when the meteorological phenomenon known as “DANA” affected Spain, causing destruction and loss of human life in Valencia. Given this situation, climate specialists have predicted that there is a probability that this event will also occur in Mexico during the Christmas season, affecting several states, including Jalisco.
Given this situation, the specialists announced the days in which this meteorological phenomenon will occur, as well as the list of entities which may see damage as a result of the “Gota Fría”, also known as “DANA”.
What is DANA or Gota Fría?
The Isolated Depression at High Levels (DANA) is a meteorological phenomenon that forms when a cold air mass is isolated from the atmospheric circulation, which remains in a hot area, so the combination and interaction of the winds generate instability in the atmosphere, causing heavy rains, thunderstorms, intense winds and even floods, as occurred in Valencia last October.
Meanwhile, the Gota Fría is when heavy rains occur but in short periods of time, which is also caused when a cold air mass makes contact with hot and humid winds.
DANA will affect Jalisco and other states
According to the specialized site on climate and atmosphere, Meteored, it was announced that the DANA would be occurring on the Pacific coasts during the days of December 24 and 25, therefore, it is expected that the entities that may be affected are:
Jalisco
Nayarit
Michoacán
Colima
Sinaloa
